So much to-do, lately, about the “apocalypse”: proclamations of the “end times”, the “end of the world”, the “devastation of everything”, the “total destruction of life as we know it”. All things full of fear.
So I decided to do some digging. I looked at the definitions of “apocalypse”, and without boring you to tears with all of them, I’ll sum up my interpretation of what I found:
APOCALYPSE: An unveiling
I see that as quite promising, don’t you? Each moment is an “unveiling”, in my little mind. Nothing that ends anything, except the moment that has just passed. Nothing that hints at devastation or destruction. Only an opening up, and yes, an unveiling of the new moment.
Comforting, really.

Thanks for the reference in your post!
Great post once again Janet.
Tried to look for some contact details on your blog, unable to find any. Would you be interested in doing an Antiview? The questions would mostly relate to your work as a hospice nurse. As you’ve seen with our other interviews, all questions will ask what it isn’t – i.e: “How shouldn’t someone treat a dying person?”
If you’re interested, drop me a line at max [at] antiview.net
Keep up the amazing work!
Thanks for stopping by and commenting! Glad you enjoyed the alternative to the end of the world! I’d enjoy doing an Antiview–not sure how much I can pull out, but would like to try! Thanks for the invite!
When I read the word ‘unveiling,’ I rushed to click my dictionary and…
I couldn’t believe it, my dictionary uses the words “uncover” and “reveal.” For more than 30 years I have believed that apocalypse means complete destruction—the end of the world. Now you ‘unveil’ a new meaning for us, you ‘reveal’ a more comforting side of it.
Thanks for ‘uncovering’ this to us Janet!
I prefer this new perspective now more than my old one.
You’re welcome! It’s refreshing to take another look at things sometime, even when they look dismal at the outset! I’m often surprised!
Janet, I love the way you look at the world. This was an excellent piece. Sorry I haven’t visited in awhile. My new job has me consumed. I’m trying to get around and visit my favorite blogs this morning. Have a beautiful day, my friend! XOXOs
Oh, thanks Terri! I knew you’d been beyond busy! Thanks for taking the time to read and send me a note! Hope your Labor Day weekend is a good one! Janet
After reading your post, I am no longer afraid of this word. Unveiling of a new moment sounds beautiful, even hopeful that things will be better. It is scary to know that there is so much calamities , destruction and pain all over the world and it gets more intense each year. I would like to think that one day soon, it will all end and peace and prosperity reigns. Thanks.
I’m glad this lifted you up! Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment!
Janet, I like your insight of the apocalypse, being an “unveiling of the new moment.” Your comment on “opening up” reminds me of the poem I wrote a few days ago based on a photo I took overlooking the valley of Armageddon, where the Great Battle is supposed to begin. In it, I saw that evil isn’t overcome by fighting, but rather by “an opening of the heart to good.” (((Hugs)))
Thanks, Peg!
This is so different from the Hollywood version of mass hysteria and destruction. I like your interpretation better.
It’s very good to look beyond what Hollywood stuffs down our throats, huh? Thanks, Janna!
Wonderful post, Janet.
The predicted Apocalypse is merely the end of the world AS WE KNOW IT. Who knows? If the Apocalypse arrives this year . . . perhaps the unveiling will reveal a BRAND NEW DAY.
Thanks, Nancy! Got to catch up on my own blog reading, now!!
Didn’t know apocalypse also meant an unveiling. I learned something new today and like this! Shifting to seeing each moment as an unveiling of the next, and life as an eternal movement of “now moments” is more promising and comforting than the fear based perceptions of the world. Thank you for this.
You’re welcome! It was eye-opening to me, as well. I like the way you state “an eternal movement of ‘now moments’” — which is exactly what it is, and so well put into words by you! Thanks for that. ♥ Janet
Your thoughts today turned into a chat between me and Phil today and he resonated with your thoughts. We love to explore these subjects, think out of the box as living life the usual, human way with it’s mental spinning and restricted views does not work very well.
