This Christmas is going to be different. Collectively, the members of my immediate family decided to change the way we celebrate Christmas this year. We’ve created this change in order to make the focus of Christmas more about the celebration of our lives together and each other, and less about “stuff”. This new tradition was rather “forced” upon us because of the poor economy, but the old saying “if life gives you lemons, make lemonade?” Well, that’s what we’re going to do!
This Christmas, we’ll spend more time with festivities, such as decorating and baking together. We’ll continue our usual Christmas Eve tradition of sitting in front of the fireplace, sipping on hot, spiced apple cider, while reading together the wonderful book, The Polar Express.
I’m excited about this new tradition we’ve created! All this, because life delivered more lemons this year than usual. Only we’ll make hot, spiced apple cider, instead of lemonade.

Even before the economy took a dive, our family stopped doing gift exchanges for the adults. Now, we just buy gifts for the kids and visit with each other.

I felt warmth as I read your words. You and your family are moving with the flow of the changes we all need to make. My Christmas is just between me and mate as family lives far, but we enjoy our fireplace, a delicious holiday home cooked meal and the aroma of pine.
